Hazardous Materials – Educational Facility

Hillmann Consulting, LLC provided hazardous materials identification, preparation of a scope of work specifications, and construction period services oversight in preparation for the interior renovation of a laboratory at a prestigious university campus in Massachusetts.

Hillmann Consulting, LLC used a phased methodology to accomplish the task at hand, and worked side-by-side with the architects, engineers, and project managers at the university as well as with the demolition contractor and the general contractor conducting the work in conjunction with the abatement contractor.  Identification of accessible hazardous materials (asbestos, lead based paint, freon, and PCB’s) was completed while students were on winter break.  This enabled the abatement project specifications to be prepared and the project to be bid and completed prior to the commencement of renovation activities.

The project is ongoing and both the consulting services and the abatement contractors costs to- date are under budget.  The remediation of all materials is being conducted in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The abatement should be completed in the fall of 2010.  A new laboratory building will be available for occupancy with an estimated completion date of January 2012.
